Writing on Places You Have Never Traveled To

With a little creativity and a lot of research it is possible to write effectively and believably about a place that you have never visited. The internet is a virtual treasure trove of information and with a few simple searches you should logically be able to acquire pretty much all the information you would need to write on any topic you set your heart on.

There are thousands of maps, travel reviews, news articles, images, and personal stories available for your use. Take advantage of this information. Rather than having to go out to see the world to be knowledgeable on the parts of it that you wish to include in your articles you can elect to stay home and have the world come to you. The internet search engines will provide you with any number of tidbits of information concerning any specific country or city that you may wish to focus your research on.

Almost any information that you might want to discover about a specific region can be found by seeking it out online. Start by searching out maps, tourist directories of the area, as well as area specific information and statistics. Maps and images of the area will give you a feel for the country’s size and atmosphere. Tourist sites will provide the highlights, culture, and current mood of a country.

Travel warnings or advisories will alert you as to internal problems within your area of interest. Is there civil unrest, war, disease, or drug problems currently occurring within the country? That information can be uncovered quite easily.

Movies are an excellent way to acquire information on a country or community. Often local curiosities and key points of interest can be discovered this way.
Study images of the countryside but also of the people who live there. Take note of their dress, their key occupations, their traditions, hopes, and fears.

You can learn a tremendous amount about an area by reading the stories of the people who live there. Before you begin to write do your research and become familiar with the area that you are planning on discussing. By doing an information search of the country that you are planning on using within your story or article you can more easily decide whether that location is a viable one or not.

If you find that you do not feel comfortable in writing about a specific location after you have begun your research then select a more suitable area on which to base your story line. You don’t need to know every detail about a country in order to feel that you can write about it. You only need to know the basic items and ideas that are relevant to your article or story line.

Focus on researching gathering and highlighting the key points you will need to reference within your article. Within this relevant information bookmark any interesting web pages so that you have access to them again should it be needed. Never try to bluff your way through something you are not certain of, if in doubt then look it up, or leave it out.

Take a virtual tour of our world and see what you can discover. There are many beautiful places to visit and you may want to include one or two of these into your written work. It is sometimes surprising how with a little creativity you can develop a lot of ideas from the knowledge that you acquire online. Don't worry if you haven't visited the country you wish to write about. Spend time researching the key points that you will be using in your article and then get writing. You may have a hit novel within you just waiting to be brought to life.
